Winter doldrums are in full effect .
Leland Little Auction’s of Hillsborough , N C , held a general antique auction on Dec.1-2 that featured 4 unimportant rugs and carpets. It did however include 5 fairly interesting oriental embroidered textiles all of which sold well over their pre-sale estimates . The one I felt was most interesting is featured below . The sale also featured 9 Tibetan Thangka’s which also sold very well , for the most part . Worth a look if thats your area of interest .
Lot # 26 , Chinese Silk embroidered throne back , pre- sale set. $2-4,000.00 . Sold for $ 15,000.00 into a still still strong Chinese rug and textile market .
Christie’s, NYC scheduled a sale on Jan. 19th titled ” Palmetto Hall” that includes 11 rugs and carpets all of which fall into the decorative category. If that’s your area of interest it could be worth your while to take a quick look. Unfortunately they are scattered throughout the inventory so you have to peruse the whole thing .
Other than that it’s still very quiet on the rug and textile front .
Poor weather conditions on both coast seem to have stifled rug commerce for the moment.
Good riddance !
Grogan’s , Boston , Ma. has a general antique auction scheduled on Feb. 5th that features 14 various rugs , carpets and flatweaves . Nothing special but in this period of cabin fever take quick look you might find something that appeals to your collecting taste .
No commerce but at least the rain has stopped and the sun is finally out !
Two full weeks of nothing to start the new year !
Parting observation .
For the moment it feels like we are in an extended dormant period going forward in rug- dumb !!?
