First reports from the Albuquerque show are that it was decent but far from great .
Next up Santa Fe !
8/9/16
Marion Antique Auctions , Marion , Ma held a general antique sale on June 25th that was of little interest to the rug and carpet world except for one piece.
Lot # 164 , Chinese silk rug pre- sale est. $1-2,000.00 ended up selling for $ 35,090.00 including the juice . This piece was in good condition and larger than you usually run across ( 92″ x 118″ ) In general unimportant to serious rug collectors but still an impressive outcome for a second tier auction at the beginning of summer . These things continue to bring strong prices in an area that used to be a very difficult to sell at all !

Freeman’s Auctions of Phil. Pa. held there rug & carpet sale today and from their posted results it went very well for them . Out of the 143 total lots run across the podium only 10 failed to find new homes , a sold percentage of over 92% . Granted this was a mediocre group of items and many of the pieces sold very reasonably but in the midst of the summer slow period it’s still a job well done by the Freeman’s Rug Dept. , so a tip of the hat to them.
As for the single lot I featured in the previous post it was either a good buy for the knew owner or an insignificant item !
Lot # 40 Yomut okbash fragment , pre- sale est. $ 2-300.00 sold for $125.00 including comm.
2 weeks till NYC !

More textile world trivia !
Farrin,s Country Auction , Randolph, Maine held a general antique auction on July 20th featured a fresh to market circa 1850 2nd Phase Navaho Chiefs blanket . Bidding stated at $500.00 (sic) but quickly escalated to end up selling for $ 67,500.00 including comm. Great for a certainly surprised consigner but maybe a pretty good buy for the new owner too !
It’s refreshing to see great things are still coming out of the woodwork.

Out of town visitor and commerce , a nice way to end the week !

Fresh reports from the South West show circuit and it appears after the exhibitors moved from Albuquerque to Santa Fe things have picked up as far as business goes ! Nice for all those who invested the capital to exhibit in fairly expensive shows to begin with .

7 days till NYC !

And so the season begins !
First up , the upcoming Nagel auction scheduled on Sept.25th is live “on the line” now for your viewing pleasure . Unfortunately this for the most part another typical Nagel sale . This time around the inventory includes 55 lots of books , 215 lots of rugs , flat weaves ,textiles and the lot plus at the tail end of the sale a group of ethnic items. The one intriguing feature of the offering is 106 lots from the” Hillebrand Coll.”. No real stand out pieces in the Coll. or the rest of the sale for that matter but the pre- sale estimates on some of the lots in the Hillebrand Coll. are very reasonable and with a sale of this size there is the possibility of sailing out of there with something of a bargain . A modest beginning to the fall auction / show season but we are under way !
One piece I thought worth a line is # 223 , Tekke Kapunuk , pre- sale est. € 5-6,000.00 . Published in Loges , Turkmen Rugs , 1978 . Nice starting point , but in my humble opinion one of the more desirable lots in the sale and it should do somewhat better .
8/19/16
Final reports are the Santa Fe shows were far more successful for the exhibitors than the first show in Albuquerque !

Christie’s , NYC held their ” Living with Art ” general antique sale today that featured 35 lots of rugs , tapestries , carpets and textiles and from the posted results all the items included in the offering sold . Nothing in the way of an upside surprise just decent prices for a limited group of mid – range merchandise . However it’s still a very positive turn of events for Ms Parker and the Christie’s rug dept. in a somewhat soft summer rug market !

Travel day .
On the ground in hot and humid NYC .
Smooth flight leading to heavy ground traffic going into town .
8/25/16
Day one !
Very quiet so far but things feel like there gonna happen . Plenty of promising leads for the rest of the day and tomorrow .
I am reasonably optimistic at this point .
As it’s been the last few trips the rug mob says its on the slow side but everyone is in a great state of mind !
8/26/16
As I figured it’s coming together today and things are starting to click but the humidity and traffic are definitely challenging .
Another fairly successful east coast sojourn is in the books .
8/27/16
Travel day smooth so far .
Back in the O.C. after a marginal delay . No harm , no foul !

Another boring start to the new week !

8/3/16
3 weeks till NYC !
8/4/16
Beginning of the Albuquerque / Santa Fe N.M. shows run with at least 5-6 shows and auctions spread out over the next 3 weeks .
Good luck to all the exhibitors , it’s a long haul !
8/5/16
Not much to blog about so far but one small piece of fresh news .
Freeman’s Auction , Phil. Pa. has a summer rug & carpet sale scheduled on Aug. 10th that features 141 lots of rugs , carpets and flat weaves . Unfortunately nothing of particular interest to serious collectors or decorators just a varied group of mid to low end common items.
Only one piece caught my eye , lot # 40 Yomut okbash fragment . Very poor online illustration . Reasonable pre- sale est. at $2-300.00 . Could be something but most likely nothing .
That’s about it , a very quiet week in rug dumb!
8/6/16
NYICS show update .
The show promoters have added a new web page with a partial listing of the antique rug dealers that will be exhibiting at at the show and you can view it through the link below .

Early morning road trip .
Another modest post but never fear changes are in the works for the fall !
