Rugs should not be politicized! Your in your face Trumpism is not appreciated in a rug “review” Extreme bad taste. Rug reviews should be a place to, well, appreciate rugs.
Just a tribute to Keith Rocklin. His memorial was held on Sunday. Many of his friends, neighbors, customers, and family attended including Tony Kitz, Brian Moorehouse, Jeff Rocklin, and others.
George , just a tribute to john Collins who recently passed. he and his friend Ron Hort were like the dynamic duo at the rug shows. Both men were willing to share their knowledge of carpets with everybody.Gone too soon but not to forgotten.
HI George,
Hope all is going well for you in CA; having dinner with Ross in few wks.
Just noted your comment about Ron Hort passing on… very sad to hear of this. have not seen him for a few yrs, but Ron was the FIRST rug dealer I had met outside of Toronto, at a Skinners auction, probably 1995 ish… we were sitting beside each other at a Skinner auction, struck up a great conversation throughout the afternoon and ended up going to back to his Tremont Hotel room for drinks and ***; shortly after scores of rug guys showed up he introduced me to to including Hopkins, Coad, Shiv, Rodney, the dealer in Boston who had a shop on Charles St. Every time I ended up at an auction, ACOR etc, would end up at his room surrounded by great characters, great conversations around rug buying, selling, collections, lots of embellishment and fantasy, but loved every minute of it! My first real baluch rug I purchased from Ron at an Acor, beat Hopkins by 10min to the purchase! (white ground boteh shown in Diehr’s second book), the first very decent Baluch bag, Im sitting beside as Im writing this note, I purchased at a Skinner auction with Ron providing commentary… really wish I had kept in touch, I know he was not doing so well in later yrs. I hope some of his closest friends provide some type of tribute perhaps on Rug Rabbit.

Really appreciate you sharing this blog article.Really looking forward to read more. Really Cool.
Hi George – Site well-designed, attractive, well-written. You are brave to allow comments. Wisdom book came. Beautifully photographed and produced publication on an astounding collection. Organization finesses our ignorance nicely. Quibble: Shift to a distinctive, but thin, font, in the technical analysis areas, make them easy to locate, but difficult to read. If this is a selection of the complete pieces, I’d like, sometime, to see some of the fragments the Wisdoms must have tucked away. Congratulations on a fine piece of work. R. John Howe
Exceptional book……..Congratulations. This work is a must read for every serious Baluch collector.. It is equally a great addition to the litterature on oriental rugs and carpets. The text is informative, the illustrations are excellent, outstanding photography of a very tricky subject matter.I particularly enjoyed the anecdotal notes about every piece in the collection. As a Baluch collector I really connected with the personal aspects of the diverse stories that these notes conveyed. Thank you for the effort…very good value on offer in this endeavour.
Great site George, it is a long way from 5th St. to here in the internet age, you’ve done a Great Job Dude!!! Take Care Calvin
just a note to ya [not to be added to the comments]—-a very nice reply, don’t you think? I believe that the old friend he is commenting on is the ‘karai’ latent prayer rug [the best example of the six or seven published] that he was holding in a ‘parting shots’ section of hali years ago.–My most sincere thanks for a very nice complement indeed. GW——-p.s. maybe hali should have asked him to write the last article on ‘bruhuli’ type weavings, instead of a guy who obviously missed the boat- take care gw
Hi George…this is an impressive collection and the book does it justice. A lot of good technical and anecdotal ‘collector’ information, well presented. The plates are exceptionally clear and color balanced for this material. Hats off to you and Don Tuttle for pulling it all together…and especially to Gary Wisdom for having the eye, energy and financial commitment that made it all possible. Nice to see an ‘old friend’ among the pieces…
George, A beautiful and elegant presentation! Fondly, Ronnie
Cool George You always get the best rugs and thanks for supporting rugrabbit. sam coad
Beautiful book, a must have for the baluchophile…
great site and great graphics
Hello George, This is a lovely production, with high quality printing and binding. There are far too few books produced on this subject. Keep up the good work! Best regards, Tim P.S. MJ has not seen the book yet.
I’ve just finished reading Baluch Tribal Weavings. Everything about it is satisfying: great images of outstanding rugs, informative and interesting commentary, and packaged with excellent materials making it a pleasure to hold in your hands. Congratulations to you and Gary on such a successful project.
There are many rug websites and webpages but sadly few of quality and from the appearance of your first effort we can see you will be a welcome addition.
Thank you for your beautiful and informative book which I am sure will set the standard for many years to come.
Big George; Congratulation on a very possitive review of Baluch Tribal Weavings in the new Hali, Autumn 2008. Well over a decade ago in your gallery, we hatched a concept of assembling a well rounded collection of 19th century pieces and displaying them in a comprehensive, visually pleasing manner. I sincerely believe your focus, determination, and patience held this project together through some rocky times and ultimately to it’s completion. Thanks @ Million Big George. Now we can move on to the next project at hand! Yours Truly, Gary A. Wisdom.
George this is nice and tasteful.Looking forward to seeing more.
George, Your site is awesome but more importantly, your rugs are awesome and beautiful, perfect in quality and I know that you only find the best quality rugs from 19th century. I’ve never bought a rug from you I didn’t love. I can always trust you and your price. Eric
I love it! “Internet George” launches a killer site! All the best, amigo, looking forward to watch the site grow. Gallery rugs are super…
George, Congratulations on the new site. Great graphics, easy to use, great selection of rugs with good descriptions. I like it. ,
George, Great site… great rugs and the best prices on books and Halis. Congratualtions man… Mike PS … save one of those Balouch Books for me
Freakin Awesome Dude!
Kool George, A good start. A little “Goth” with the title page….maybe you should get a Shah Abbas motif painted hearse for carpet deliveries? ;-)) OK, just kidding. Might be a good idea to eventually get as much, or at least a wider variation of your inventory posted up…. especially for decorators who might be looking for a source to do a whole residence? Will send the photo now. Best, sdf p.s. WELCOME to the 21st CENTURY!
Awestruck!!…a singularly beautiful collection and flawless presentation of it. Thank you for your efforts and sharing it with fellow ‘Baluch’ admirers. Warmest congratulations to you both.
