Memorial Day , Thanks to all who sacrificed !
Back to work , but there isn't any.
Looks like it's gonna be one of those weeks.
At this point the only thing to look forward to this week is the Rippon sale on Sat.
Other than that nothing in the way of fresh rug market news , just silence !
I have not found an answer for the pre- summer doldrums but we are certainly in the midst of it .
Finally , it's Rippon – Boswell day.
We wait now with baited breath for the results .
I hope you can hold your breath , as in the past this is gonna take some time.
Which for the time being we all have plenty of !
Viva George Jung , free at last . ,!!!
Road Trip , big score !,
Details on the results of the May 31 Rippon Boswell sale are starting to trickle in now and as I mentioned in an earlier post Turkmen's have shined as the star lots .
At this point the results are incomplete but the half dozen or so high profile Turkmen lots all sold and for very impressive figures at that !
Concerning the results of the overall sale first reports indicate a sold percentage of maybe 50 + % , more on that down the road.
As for 2 of the lots I featured in an earlier post , they both sold quite well.
Lot # 96 , ” Bokhara ” Saf fragment , pre- sale est. € 65,000.00 sold for € 122.000.00 ( $165,920.00 ) including comm. to the “Italian trade ” . This was my favorite item in the sale and I thought it was stunning . I guess the price it commanded proves it !
Certainly the high lite of the auction.
Lot # 127 , The Bailey Tekke khalyk , pre- sale est. € 10,000 sold for € 30,500.00
( $ 41,480.00 ) . Not an exorbitant price for a very cool piece .
Once Mr Maltzahn and staff post the complete results a full review will follow in the Rapistan Review.
I apologize for the post being so weak lately but fresh rug news is very hard to come by at the moment . However big things are taking place at O.C.G. now and will be made public shortly .
Tomorrow is the June edition of the “world famous ” Rosebowl flea market , unfortunately , a minor thing to look forward to.
Next on the docket , the Grogan auction featuring 67 mid-range pieces , so let's just see how that turns out.
M.G. post his results in real time so we will know right away how the sale turned out , nice !
No luck in the rug / textile dept. today at the Rosebowl , that withstanding a small collection of mediocre American Indian Art , 8 baskets and 5 Navaho rugs did surface . Not earth shattering but decent , fresh group. From my point of view a nice moderate score for one of the local Indian art pickers .
Stuff still does show up , if your persistent .
Now a short wait till the results of the Grogan sale are posted.
4:20 , Ca. time .
The Grogan sale has just concluded and for all intensive purposes another very positive turn of events for M.G. and staff.
Out of the 67 lots put under the hammer 64 ended up finding new homes leaving only 3 unsold lots , all mediocre room size Persian carpets. .
This works out to a sold percentage of about 96 %.
Not a thing in the way of upside surprises , everything that sold was at or close to the auction estimates.
The 2 lots I featured in an earlier post both found buyers right in their pre- sale estimate range .
Lot # 743 Ersari juval est. $ 5-1,000.00 sold for $ 700.00 + comm.
Lot # 751 Chinese saddle rug , est. $ 5-1,000 sold for $ 900.00 + comm.
These 2 pieces were no great shakes but in my opinion stood out in what was a limited middle of the road offering .
All though this was a minor sale that did not include any star items it's still a great out come for the Grogan rug dept.
Average is selling , if priced accordingly.
Good job M.G. !
That's it for the end of an unremarkable 2 week stretch .
